A type of edged weapon common in Okinawa. It is a short curved blade impaled on a short handle perpendicular to it. It looks more like a scythe than a sickle. Its prototype was an agricultural tool - a sickle for harvesting rice, which acquired military significance after the annexation of Okinawa by Japan and the introduction of a ban on traditional cold weapons
